Keep them in the holder so sizes stay findable, and keep them dry. Manganese phosphate holds oil, and a light film is what keeps the coating working.

35 Keys13 metric, 13 SAE and 9 Torx
S2 Alloy SteelHeat treated, harder than common carbon steel
Ball EndsUp to 25 degrees of entry angle
Marked HolderLaser-etched sizes, clearly marked slots

Thirty-five keys in S2 steel: 13 metric, 13 SAE and 9 Torx, all long arm and ball ended.

Heat-treated S2 alloy steel with a manganese phosphate coating, ball ends for 25 degree entry, and laser-etched sizes in a marked holder.

Thirty-five long arm keys: 13 metric hex, 13 SAE hex and 9 Torx or star keys, which between them cover almost every socket-head fastener.

Each key is heat-treated S2 alloy steel with a manganese phosphate coating for rust and corrosion resistance.

The ball ends allow up to 25 degrees of entry angle, which is what lets a key reach a bolt that is not square to your hand.

The long arm gives reach and leverage, and the sizes are laser etched and the holder slots are marked.

Allen Wrench Set

S2 is the point of difference. It is a tool steel with more silicon and manganese than chrome vanadium, and heat treated it takes more torque before it twists, which on a small hex key is the failure that ruins the fastener as well as the tool.

Allen Wrench Set

Ball ends buy you angle. Up to 25 degrees off square is the difference between reaching a grub screw inside a pulley and taking the pulley off first.

Allen Wrench Set

The trade is worth stating: a ball end contacts on a smaller area than a flat end, so heavy torque goes on the straight end and the ball end is for reach and for spinning a fastener down.

Allen Wrench Set

Long arm is a reach and leverage choice. The long side goes into a recess, the short side takes the turn, and the extra length is what gets a key past an obstruction.

Allen Wrench Set

Manganese phosphate is a conversion coating rather than a plating. It holds oil, it resists rust and corrosion, and it does not chip off into the fastener the way a plating can.

Allen Wrench Set

The holder is what makes 35 keys usable. Laser-etched sizes do not wear off the way stamped and painted ones do, and clearly marked slots are how a set stays complete.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Australian Consumer Law's consumer guarantees you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Australian Consumer Law covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Hex keys, ball ends and rounded socket heads

3 min read Industry Tools Company Australia

A rounded socket head is one of the more annoying failures in a workshop, and it is almost always a tool choice rather than a torque problem.

Get the size right. Metric and imperial hex sizes run close enough together that an imperial key will go into the next metric socket and feel almost right. That is the single most common way a head gets rounded.

Clean the socket first. Old paint, thread lock and packed dirt keep the key from seating fully, and a key that is only half in is a key that is working on the top corners of the socket.

Seat the key fully before turning. If you can see any of the flats above the surface, it is not in far enough.

Use the straight end for force. Ball ends are for reach: the ball touches on a smaller area, so all the load goes through less metal. Spin a fastener down on the ball, tighten on the straight leg.

Use the long arm as the lever when you need torque, and the short arm as the lever when you need to get in. The set gives you both ends of that choice.

Push, then turn. Pressure into the socket keeps the key seated; turning without it is what lets the key climb out.

If it starts to round, stop and change tactics. A slightly oversized Torx driven into a rounded hex socket will often turn it, and an extractor is the next step after that. Carrying on with the same key only rounds it further.
