Keep the tips straight and unmarked. A pick with a bent or blunted tip tears the seal it is meant to lift.

Bent ShaftsDesigned for working in a small space
Cushioned HandlesSoft rubber layer with grip granules

Ten head shapes, a bent shaft for tight work, and a rubber handle for the long jobs.

A 90 degree hook, a large full hook, a straight pick, a small full hook, a combination pick, an offset pick, a hose pick and a cotter pick, rated to a drawing force over 90 kg.

Ten pick and hook shapes, which between them cover almost everything an O ring, a seal or a clip needs.

The set includes a 90 degree hook, a large full hook, a straight pick, a small full hook, a combination pick, an offset pick, a hose pick and a cotter pick.

The maker states a drawing force specification of more than 90 kg for the set.

The shafts are bent for confined work and the handles carry a soft rubber layer with grip granules, which is what makes a long session possible.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

Picks are one of those sets where the number of shapes is the whole point. A seal that will not come out with a straight pick lifts out with an offset one, and the difference is thirty seconds against half an hour.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

The bent shaft is what makes the set usable on a vehicle. Straight picks want a straight run at the work, and almost nothing on an engine gives you one.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

The drawing force figure, over 90 kg, is a statement about the shaft rather than about your hand. A pick that flexes at the tip does not lift a stuck O ring, it slips off it.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

Handles matter here more than on most tools. Picking a set of O rings out of a valve body is a repetitive job done with fine force, and a hard handle is what turns it into a sore hand.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

The maker lists the uses: ignition systems, intake valves, rifle bolt surfaces, seals, fuel valve O rings, hose end O rings and electronic equipment.

Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Set

One warning worth stating: a pick is a lever with a sharp point, and the surface under a seal is usually a sealing face. Lift the ring, do not lever off the groove.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Australian Consumer Law's consumer guarantees you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Australian Consumer Law covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Can Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Sets handle prying tasks?

While Heavy Duty Pick and Hook Sets are designed for precision work, some picks may have sufficient strength for light prying tasks, though it's recommended to use appropriate tools for heavier prying.

How many picks are in the set?

Ten head shapes, including a 90 degree hook, a large and a small full hook, a straight pick, a combination pick, an offset pick, a hose pick and a cotter pick.

What drawing force is it rated for?

More than 90 kg for the set, as stated by the maker.

Why are the shafts bent?

So they reach into a small space without needing a straight run at the work, which is most of what a vehicle offers.

What are the handles like?

Ergonomic, with a soft rubber layer and grip granules, which is what stops a long picking job becoming a sore hand.

What is it used for?

Ignition systems, intake valves, seals, fuel valve and hose end O rings, and electronic equipment.

Will it damage a seal?

A pick can, if it is used as a lever against the sealing face. Lift the ring itself and keep the tip off the groove.

Is it only for cars?

No. The same shapes are used across home repair, small engines and electronics.

Do the tips stay sharp?

They do with care. A bent or blunted tip tears rather than lifts, so a damaged pick is worth replacing rather than working around.

Do you have a shop I can visit?

No. We sell online only, with no physical shop or premises, which is how the price stays where it is.

Can I change my mind after it arrives?

Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?

Getting an O ring out without damaging the groove

2 min read Industry Tools Company Australia

The seal is cheap. The face it sits against is not, and that is the whole of this job.

Choose the shape before the force. A straight pick works when you can get behind the ring. When you cannot, an offset or a 90 degree hook will get under it from the side, and swapping shape is almost always faster than pushing harder.

Lift the ring, do not lever off the groove. Put the point into the rubber, roll the ring up out of its seat, then pull it clear. The moment the tip is bearing on metal you are scoring a sealing face.

Work cold where you can. Old rubber is brittle and comes out in pieces; warm rubber stretches and comes out whole.

Count the pieces. A fragment left in a groove is what makes a new seal leak, and it is very easy to miss.

Clean the groove before the new ring goes in, and check it with your fingernail. Anything you can feel, the seal will find.

Keep the tips true. A pick that has been used as a screwdriver has a rolled tip, and a rolled tip tears rubber instead of lifting it.
